The Malawi government on Wednesday met a team from Facebook Africa to discuss how they can work together in fighting cyber crime.
The meeting which took place at MACRA‘s offices in Blantyre was a follow up to a preliminary meeting which took place early this year in Barcelona, Spain.
Facebook Africa is in the process of bringing investment to Malawi which will include wireless and rural internet connectivity.
Facebook’s Africa, Access and Connectivity public policy manager Edward Kojo Boakye said apart from connectivity, the investment is working towards having a solution to online safety.
Boakye cited Uganda as one of the countries that are already enjoying the fruits of the project.
On its part the Malawi government through principal secretary in the ministry of ICT Erica Maganga said government was pleased with the development saying one of its key agenda is to make sure that there is connectivity across the country.
The meeting was attended by officials from government, Malawi Police Service and MACRA.
