MACRA stakes a claim in eliminating HIV/AIDS

A moment of silence was observed in remembrance of all those who died of HIV/AIDS.

MACRA has staked a claim in helping Malawi eliminate HIV/AIDS by 2030.

This was part of the speech by the organisation’s Director General, Godfrey Itaye, as MACRA joined the world in celebrating World Aids Day on 1st December, 2016 under the theme: “Hands Up for #HIVPREVENTION”.

“Many countries have committed to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030 as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). We are gathered here to support our country, Malawi in eliminating HIV/AIDS by 2030, and be able to effectively contribute to the attainment of United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals,” he said.

Reflecting on this year’s theme, the Director General said it was time to embrace everyone and disseminate messages about HIV/AIDS to all corners of society.

“At MACRA we don’t wish to leave anyone behind. It is my call therefore to move forward together. And this can be achieved with love and compassion. Let’s continue spreading the messages and help end HIV in Malawi,” he said.

As part of the commemoration, MACRA members of staff lighted candles and observed a minute of silence in remembrance of family members and friends who died of AIDS.
