MACRA recently hosted Communications Regulators Association of Southern Africa (CRASA) series of meetings on postal financial services, financial inclusion and universal Access and service committee.
The meetings, which run from 29th to 2nd September 2016, discussed the creation of a common SADC Policy and Regulatory Framework that will support the consistent and coordinated development of Postal Financial Services as a deliberate strategy for increasing Financial Inclusion in the region.
Speaking at the official opening ceremony, MACRA Board Director Mr. Sheend Mwala, said postal services being the oldest way of communication, from which modern technologies have evolved, remain an important area through which communities, especially the unbanked in the rural and remote areas can benefit from in many ways.
He said as financial institutions shun certain areas that are deemed unprofitable, with government’s support, posts continue to provide financial services to those areas.
The meetings attracted about 10 member states.
