Central region awareness campaign ends on a high

MACRA recently completed the second phase of its nationwide consumer awareness campaign.

Thousands of communication consumers took part in this second leg of the campaign that took MACRA to the central region districts of Ntcheu, Lilongwe, Mchinji, Kasungu, Nkhotakota and Salima. This was a follow up to the first phase of the awareness campaign that took MACRA to the northern region in 2015.

During the campaign, MACRA in collaboration with district stakeholders conducted radio talk shows, public dialogues, youth forums, educational workshops, town hall meetings and a public event.

Consumer Affairs Manager, Mrs. Ivy Chipezaani, said the overall goal of the consumer awareness campaign was to create and sustain awareness among stakeholders and consumers of communication services on their rights, obligations and redress mechanisms, ICT trends and MACRA’s role in general.

The campaign is in fulfillment of MACRA’s consumer protection mandate as empowered by the Communications Act. The mandate is also manifested in MACRA’s Strategic Objective aimed at positioning consumers to play a greater role in the development of the Communications Sector.

The consumer awareness campaign will be implemented in all the country’s three main regions.
